Bohani @20:30hrs

Was at the market last Sunday with my cousin. Had some shopping to do. Clothes basically. You know, how much ever you have them, they are never sufficient. We were on the way home waiting for an auto.

Suddenly my cousin noticed that a man was selling some plastic wares on the road. All sort of sundry colourful things. He had set up his shop on the raod itself on a small piece of plastic. He had a long round box to keep agarbattis. My cousin stopped. She wanted to buy the box. It had already started raining a bit, so I protested saying it was already too late, she can buy it some other time and started to rush away.

But she stopped me, saying it would only take five minutes. We moved forward towards the man selling the wares. His looked up, his eyes filled with hope. My cousin took up the box and asked its cost. The man almost seemed overwhelmed. He touched all his wares and sort of prayed to God. My cousin kept the box in her bag and handed him the money. He touched the notes to his head, to his small shop, closed his eyes and prayed.

It was his first sale for the day...his bohni. And the time this incident took place was 8:30 at night.....

There are more than 90% chances that it was all that he earned that day, Rs.22. Which he may have almost missed because of me. And here we were fussing about our clothes..........

Almost forgetting how lucky we were to not have to think from where our one time meal came from.............
