My morbid thoughts.......

This is an extremely morbid take on the recent rapes in India. I can be very well off the mark here, but I still want to find out if I am the only cynic.

A 5 year old raped and brutalized in Delhi, the country capital. The incident comes after a similarly publicized brutal rape of a 22 year old who died after sustaining fatal injuries.

My question - There have been numerous incidents of rape and murder between these two incidents. Why did they occupy such small corners of newspapers? Why were there no candle light marches to mourn for these victims? Why did the media ignore them?

My "over" analysis of the situation - Nirbhaya and the 5 year old child, both were from Delhi - the capital which is staring at a power shift in the coming year. Were some "influential" people instrumental in exploiting these incidents? Are they responsible to spread the "awareness" among  the Facebook generation (coincidentally this is a growing set of educated middle class population who cannot be won by free tv sets). And why choose these two particular incidents? Because of the sheer sensational value caused by the brutality in addition to gang rape? If that was the case, then Nirbhaya had set the benchmarks high in terms of cruelty. But the recent incident was at par with Nirbhaya case.

Are we being played here? Are we just idiots  here who need just a spark to flame up? Standing up against the system is a good idea, but we stand up against it without any agenda, put up a fight for some time, and then forget. All the time the idea of how the present Government is bad is drilled within us.

And then there are the vultures. The media. They lap up such stories more greedily than a child who grabs chocolates. They play replay these stories, dig out more stories from the recent and even the not so recent past. Why? Simple, to leverage the current story. Masaledar chatpati stories. They do it for a couple of weeks and then go back to reporting how some actress has been visiting an actor at all times of the day. Until, they get the next big rape story.

Now what next? What are these people waiting for? Something as or even more terrible than these two cases?
